ZUB Argos 9

ZUB Argos is specialized software for the detailed calculation of thermal bridges.

The software enables two-dimensional (2D) simulation of heat flows and temperatures, allowing the precise determination of:

  • ψ-values (psi values)

  • f-values (temperature factors)

  • Temperature distributions

  • Heat flows within building components

Calculations are performed in accordance with:

  • DIN EN ISO 10211

  • DIN 4108-2

  • DIN 4108 Supplement 2

ZUB Argos is therefore suitable both for verification in accordance with the GEG and GModG and for detailed building physics analyses.

Information on entering custom window profiles

Custom window profiles can be entered in ZUB Argos Pro. However, creating these window profiles remains a highly complex and time-consuming process. This includes, for example, interpreting CAD templates and correctly assigning their elements, positioning components with millimetre or sub-millimetre accuracy, and individually assessing the thermal conductivity of air-filled cavities. We therefore recommend using the reference components provided.

The support service expressly does not include assistance with the creation of custom window profiles or similar components.

To help you get started with the software, please watch our video tutorials. Additional tutorials are available under Support / Tutorials.

Further tutorials can be found in the support section.

MODELLING OF THERMAL BRIDGES (PRACTICAL APPLICATION AND STANDARDS COMPLIANCE)

Content

Modelling is a central element of thermal bridge calculation.

In ZUB Argos, real connection details are represented geometrically, including:

  • Walls

  • Floors and ceilings

  • Window and French-door connections

  • Floor slabs

  • Façade connections

  • Roof connections

The modelling is based on:

  • Polygons and rectangles

  • Real building component assemblies

Relevant standard requirements for section planes must be observed, for example:

  • Minimum distances of ≥ 1 m or three times the component thickness

  • Use of symmetry planes

  • Consideration of the ground in foundation details

This ensures that the calculation is carried out in a physically accurate and standards-compliant manner.

CALCULATION OF Ψ-VALUES AND HEAT FLOWS

Content

The key strength of ZUB Argos lies in its calculation capabilities.

The software:

  • Calculates heat flows

  • Visualizes temperature distributions

  • Determines ψ-values

The ψ-value represents the additional heat loss caused by a thermal bridge and is determined using:

  • Thermal coupling coefficient (L2D)

  • U-values

  • Temperature differences

This calculation is essential for:

  • GEG and GModG verification

  • Energy performance assessment

  • Optimization of building constructions

EVALUATION AND VISUALIZATION

Content

The results are presented not only numerically, but also visually.

ZUB Argos provides:

  • Temperature fields

  • Isotherms (lines of equal temperature)

  • Heat flow visualizations

  • FEM mesh visualization

  • Comprehensive reporting functions, including KfW forms and computational proof of equivalence

  • ψ-value correction factors for replacement systems in accordance with DIN 4108 Supplement 2

  • Temperature correction in accordance with DIN 4108 Supplement 2 for the fRsi calculation of window and French-door connections

This makes it possible to:

  • Identify critical areas immediately

  • Understand heat losses

  • Optimize problem areas in a targeted manner

This visualization is a decisive advantage, particularly for complex construction details.

REFERENCE DETAILS AND PROOF OF EQUIVALENCE

Content

A particular advantage is the ability to compare custom details with reference details.

ZUB Argos enables:

  • Linking custom constructions with details from DIN 4108 Supplement 2

  • Automatic assignment of reference values

  • Use for GEG and KfW verification

This significantly simplifies the proof of equivalence.

WHY THERMAL BRIDGES ARE CRITICAL

Content

Thermal bridges can lead to:

  • Increased energy consumption

  • Lower surface temperatures

  • Risk of mould growth

  • Reduced thermal comfort

By definition, thermal bridges occur in areas where heat flow is locally increased, for example due to:

  • Changes in materials

  • Geometric changes

  • Construction details
